A petition launched in Derby South to oppose university tuition fees and top-up fees has received a huge response. The petition was sent as part of a survey to young people across Derby South.
The author of the petition, Councillor Lucy Care, Liberal Democrat Parliamentary Spokesperson for Derby South, stated:
"I have been amazed at the response I have received. Clearly there are many young people across Derby South, who are concerned about the tuition fees issue. The prospect of the government bringing in university top-up fees leaves many young people facing rolling up huge debts".
However, it is quite clear that university fees is an issues of concern for more than just young people. Many parents are concerned about the impact of student fees. Also there are older people who want to go to university to study, for whom the fees issue is an important subject.
I am therefore including copies of the petition in my next campaign newspaper, this will give people of all ages across Derby South the opportunity to register their opposition to tuition fees".
Additional copies of the petition are available by contacting Derby Liberal Democrat on Tel: 01332 298934, or email: derbylibdems@tiscali.co.uk.
