Derby's Liberal Democrat group have set up a campaign website to oppose Council plans to close Lancaster Sports Centre.
The Labour-led council announced in July that the popular local sports centre would close. However, following opposition from the general public, users of the Sports Centre and Liberal Democrat councillors, a formal decision on closure has been delayed. The Cabinet may now confirm in October whether to close the Centre.
Liberal Democrat councillors spoke out and voted against the plans in July. They are also distributing a newspaper around much of Derby inviting people to back the campaign to save Lancaster Sports Centre.
The new website is designed to put additional pressure on the Council to drop its plans to close the sports centre, in the run up to October's decision.
Cllr Hilary Jones, leader of Derby Liberal Democrat councillors, said "We set this website up to give local people another way to show Labour and Tory council bosses the level of support for Lancaster Sports centre.
"Liberal Democrat Councillors and campaigners are always looking for new ways to engage the public and give them the chance to tell us their views. This website gives people the chance to say loudly and clearly that they want to save their sports centre from the Labour/Tory Council's axe"
