Masud Akhtar is fighting the cuts to local services being inflicted by the Labour/Conservative alliance
Former Labour City and County Councillor Masud Akhtar has been chosen as Liberal Democrat candidate for Arboretum ward.
Mr Akhtar said "I am delighted to have been selected to fight for Arboretum ward. I am standing for the Liberal Democrats because they are providing the only opposition to a Labour/Conservative alliance that is costing local people more but delivering them less.
"The Lib Dems are championing local people's concerns. They are doing a good job fighting to protect local people's services, like Lancaster Sports Centre, from the Labour/Conservative alliance's cuts.
"Earlier this year Arboretum ward voted Liberal Democrat for the first time. Next year looks set to be another close race between me as the Lib Dem candidate, and new Labour."
Liberal Democrat Councillor for Arboretum Rehmat Khan said "Masud would make a great addition to the Liberal Democrat Group on the council. He is experienced at representing local people and his ability to listen to local people and champion their views means that he is already fitting in well in the Lib Dem team."
