The Liberal Democrats have selected Laraine Timon to be their candidate for Alvaston ward. Alvaston ward was the site of a Lib Dems gain from Labour in this year's local elections. Next year's election in the ward looks set to be another close race between the two parties.
Laraine Timon is well known in the area as a local campaigner, she is currently the Chairman of the Wilmorton Allotments Society.
Laraine said "I am delighted that I have been selected to fight for Alvaston ward. I have already been speaking to many local people about what they want done for the area.
"I will be fighting to protect local services and green fields in Alvaston ward. I am particularly concerned to protect "Great Ricks Field" from possible development. Many people are concerned that this important part of Derby's greenbelt could be turned into a golf course. I want to see it protected.
"All the indications are that the elections next year will be a really close race between myself and the Labour candidate. I will be working hard for people in Alvaston ward to earn their trust and support".
