Lucy Care and the Lib Dems are fighting for fair funding for Derbyshire Police
Liberal Democrat Parliamentary Spokesperson for Derby North, Councillor Lucy Care, has condemned Derby's Labour MPs for not backing a motion which calls for fair funding for Derbyshire Police.
Lucy Care said "Local people tell me again and again that they hardly ever see a police officer on the beat. If we are to have the police we need the government has to fund them properly.
"Derbyshire Police is seriously underfunded. Our local police force received £5.2 million less from the government this year than they should be entitled to under the government's own funding formula. If things don't change they will receive £5.7 million less than they are entitled to next year. If our Police continue to be underfunded we could see big cuts and even fewer police officers on our streets.
"A Parliamentary Early Day Motion has been put down by Chesterfield's Lib Dem MP, Paul Holmes calling for fair funding for our police.
"Shamefully no other Derbyshire MP has signed the motion. It is no point Derby's Labour MPs claiming they want more police on the beat if they aren't prepared to pressure the government to do something about it.
"Derby is being let down by its MPs on a really important issue.
"I hope that at least Labour and Conservative Councillors in Derby will be supporting the Lib Dem motion at Wednesday's Council meeting which highlights police underfunding."
