The Liberal Democrats are the only alternative to Derby's Labour/Conservative alliance
Simon Hughes MP, the Liberal Democrat Party President, was campaigning in Derby on Friday. Mr Hughes and a team of local Liberal Democrats, including Parliamentary Spokesperson for Derby North, Cllr Lucy Care and local campaigner Simon Lysaczenko, were speaking to people in the Mackworth area of the city.
Mr Hughes said "I am here to support the good work being done by Lucy Care and the rest of the Lib Dem team in Derby.
"The Liberal Democrats in Derby have a really important task as the only opposition to Derby's ruling Labour/Conservative alliance.
"Speaking to people it was clear that many of them are angry with the Labour/Tory alliance's near maximum Council Tax rise and their cruel cuts to local services like CCTV and street cleaning.
"I visited Derby during last year's local elections. Last year the elections ended up with a really close result between Labour and the Lib Dems across Derby. This year's local elections look set to be an even closer race between the Liberal Democrats and Labour."
