Liberal Democrats in Derby are campaigning to save NHS services from New Labour's cuts
Liberal Democrats in Derby are campaigning to save local health services from government cutbacks.
Local Lib Dems are taking part in their party's "Save the NHS" campaign.
The campaign calls for an end to cuts to NHS services.
Campaign co-ordinator Cllr Lucy Care said "Health services are under threat across Britain including many hospitals, Accident & Emergency and maternity services.
"Cuts are also being made to training budgets for key medical staff undermining the future of the NHS.
"Here in Derby our NHS is facing cuts too. Government cutbacks mean a 150 beds at Derby hospitals are likely to be lost.
"Liberal Democrats across Britain are collecting signatures for a mass petition opposing the cuts. Here in Derby we will be sending out Save the NHS petitions to tens of thousands of people. We hope to be able to send a huge number of petitions to the government.
"If Tony Blair and Gordon Brown can find billions to fund their war in Iraq they should be able to provide decent healthcare to look after people here in Britain".
