Years of work by local people and Liberal Democrat Councillors has secured a new Library for Mickleover
Derby's Liberal Democrat group have announced the line-up of their new Shadow Cabinet. The eight member team of Councillors will provide the opposition to the Labour/Conservative alliance Cabinet that currently runs Derby.
Councillors Hilary Jones and Lucy Care remain Liberal Democrat leader and deputy leader, respectively on the council.
Councillor Hilary Jones said "The Liberal Democrat team will provide strong and constructive opposition to the Labour/Conservative alliance.
"We want to see cleaner streets, more action to tackle crime, better care for needy pensioners and disabled people and an end to big Council Tax rises.
"We will press for increased recycling and more action to make the council more energy efficient, so that taxpayers money can be saved by keeping down the council's huge fuel bills.
"The announcement recently of the Council's plan to close Gayton Swimming Pool is just the latest in a long line of cuts to vital services. It shows just how vital it is at this time to have a strong opposition, to the current council leadership, led by Labour but supported by the Conservatives.
"Labour is letting Derby down and the Conservatives, by joining Labour's cabinet, are letting them do it. But the Liberal Democrats Shadow Cabinet will take every opportunity to speak up for local people and hold Labour to account for the mistakes they are making."
