Labour council bosses have been accused of hypocrisy for wanting to close the popular local swimming pool at Gayton School
Derby Liberal Democrats have slammed Derby's Labour party for being hypocritical in wanting to close Gayton School's Swimming Pool. The Labour cabinet wish to press ahead with the closure despite an announcement from Labour Prime Minister Gordon Brown that he wants all school children to do five hours sport a week.
Local Lib Dem campaigner Cllr Ruth Skelton said "The Labour Prime Minister has just announced that he wanted every school child to do more sport each week. Yet here in Derby the Labour Cabinet is seeking to close a swimming pool which is used by hundreds of school children learning to swim.
"How can Labour credibly say they want to promote school sport when here in Derby they are closing such an important sports facility for school children?"
