Local people are saying it is time Labour Council bosses started listening!

Residents of Exeter House have criticised Labour led Derby Council's handling of its plans to demolish their homes.

Derby City Council's cabinet agreed to issue an initial demolition notice on Exeter House, on July 31st.

Liberal Democrat Councillors and campaigners have now conducted a survey of the residents of Exeter House. The Lib Dems asked residents how they thought the council had dealt with the future of Exeter House.

The main findings of the survey were;

· Almost nine in ten residents of Exeter House who replied said the council had not made a big enough effort to consult them

· Eight out of ten people rated their flat good or excellent

· Over seven in ten people rated the Council's performance on the issue poor or dreadful

Liberal Democrat campaigner Tullah Khan who organised the survey said "When we knocked on doors in Exeter House people were pleased to see that finally someone was coming to listen to them about the future of their homes.

"The residents were angry that Labour bosses on the council have not bothered to properly consult them."

Liberal Democrat group leader Councillor Hilary Jones said "The findings of this survey show that it is about time this Labour led council got better at actually talking to local people. The people of Exeter House are going to have their homes demolished by the council, but they feel as if no one from the council has even bothered to ask them their views.

"The Council should be looking at incorporating Exeter House into future development plans, it doesn't need to be knocked down.

"Most people in Exeter House said they liked their flats. The Liberal Democrats will continue to fight for the residents of Exeter House and other people who feel as if Labour bosses at the council are not listening to them.
