Liberal Democrats demand an end to care home closure

Lucy Care and the Lib Dems are fighting Labour Council bosses plans to axe a popular local care home
Local Liberal Democrats are demanding that Derby Council drop their plans to close a local care home.
They have put down a motion calling for a halt to the closure, which will be debated at the Full Council meeting on November the 21st.
The Council Cabinet have said they wish to close the Bramblebrook House care home in Mickleover.
Liberal Democrat Social Care Spokeswoman Cllr Ruth Skelton said "There is huge opposition to the Labour led Councils plans to close Bramblebrook House care home.
"The Council is already cutting home help services to pensioners and disabled people who live at home. On top of this they want to close a care home for elderly people as well.
"It seems crazy for the council to be wanting to close a care home when Derby already has hardly any unoccupied residential care beds. Bramblebrook House has just had new windows installed, is in good condition and meets all the necessary standards. There is no need to close it.
"These cruel cuts need to be stopped and I hope our motion will force the Labour led Council to think again on this issue."
