Derby Labour Party in disarray as third Councillor leaves

February 8, 2008 12:00 PM

Derby Labour Party is in tatters after a third Labour Councillor in four months has left the party.

Well-respected senior Councillor Amar Nath has today resigned from Labour and will sit as an Independent.

Liberal Democrat leader Cllr Hilary Jones says "This Labour led council is in chaos. They are losing Councillors left, right and centre.

"It is clear that Labour have lost its way. By closing elderly people's homes, cutting leisure services and the ever increasing Council Tax- even Labour Councillors have had enough!

"On May 1st local residents will also have their verdict on the Labour splits and Labour's failures.

"With the Tories in Alliance with Labour, only the Liberal Democrats can provide real change for Derby."
