Liberal Democrats and local people want the crossing near Kingsway Retail Park to be safer
Local Liberal Democrat campaigners and residents living in the Kingsway area of Derby have held a rally and handed over a petition to ask for a safer crossing for the road down to the Kingsway Retail Park.
Local Liberal Democrat campaigner Ajit Atwal handed over the petition, containing hundreds of names, to Cllr Lucy Care, Cabinet Member on Derby City Council.
Ajit Atwal said "The local people have spoken. They want it to be easier and safer to cross the road here.
"I want to thank everyone who has supported this campaign. All the residents who signed the petition, Cllr David Batey for his help in gathering signatures and in particular local resident Norman Clayton who has spent many years fighting for a safer crossing here."
Liberal Democrat Cllr Lucy Care said "Improving the crossing point at the top of the road to Kingsway Retail Park would improve things for people who shop at Sainsburys and also for walkers and cyclists between Littleover and Mackworth areas.
"A push button crossing is planned for here when the Kingsway Hospital site is redeveloped. I am hopeful that we can get some improvement to the crossing before then."
