Local Liberal Democrats have welcomed a proposed new law which seeks to clamp down on scrap metal theft.
Lancashire MP Graham Jones is putting forward a "Metal Theft (Protection) Bill" before the House of Commons, where it is due to have its second reading on 20th January.
Leader of Derby Liberal Democrat councillors, Cllr Hilary Jones said "I hope all local MPs will give their support to this proposed new law.
"Scrap metal theft is a nuisance for many local people. For example, the recent discovery of dozens of local road signs at a scrap merchants and the theft of lead from the roof of the Ivy House School in Littleover.
"With the price of metal high at the moment it's a lucrative crime and more needs to be done to deter those involved in it, passing this law would be a help."
