Local people are up in arms at Derby Labour Party's Parking Meter plans

Residents and people who shop at the Littleover village are furious after Labour Council bosses ignored their pleas and decided to put parking meters into Littleover village.

A meeting to discuss the issues at Derby's Council Offices on Wednesday ended with Labour's cabinet member for transport deciding to force parking meters onto Littleover Village.

This is despite the huge public opposition, and no clear reason being given for the move.

Littleover Liberal Democrat Cllr Les Allen who led the campaign against the parking meters said, "Lots of local residents and traders came to the meeting to tell Labour Council leaders just how damaging the parking meters will be. The parking meters will harm businesses in Littleover.

"Over 2000 residents have signed petitions against the parking meters and nearly two hundred sent letters to the Council opposing the plans.

"Unfortunately Labour leaders have yet again ignored local people's concerns.

"The campaign against these meters carries on. In just seven weeks' time the people of Littleover and the thousands of other Derby residents who shop there, will get their chance to have their say in the ballot box.

"If Labour Council leaders think they can get away with imposing these parking meters without a huge backlash then they are living in cloud cuckoo land."

Outside the meeting there was a demonstration by local residents traders and Lib Dem councillors opposing the parking meters.
