Residents and Liberal Democrat councillors met to plan further opposition to Labour's parking meters

Residents and Liberal Democrat councillors are continuing the fight against Labour's parking meter plans

Residents have vowed to continue the fight against the Labour led council's plans to put parking meters into Littleover Village.

A packed meeting at the Baptist Church on Thornhill Road saw local Liberal Democrat Councillors Les Allen, Lucy Care and Ruth Skelton condemn the council's parking meters plans.

Residents at the meeting decided to set up a committee to co-ordinate further opposition to parking meters in the local shopping area.

The council's plans to charge people to park in the streets around Littleover's shops has already provoked a massive backlash from residents. Over 2000 people signed petitions and almost 200 wrote letters opposing the meters.

Liberal Democrat Cllr Les Allen who organised the meeting said "This meeting gave people a chance to demonstrate yet again how passionate the opposition is to Labour's parking meter plans.

"Local people are determined to stop the meters and I and my Liberal Democrat colleagues will continue to fight these parking meter plans every step of the way."
